Group 9 – Project 2 Running the Motor

Alex Edge and Regan Mealing – circuit setup

The code worked fine on Tinker Cad but didn’t work when we tried to run it on a real Ardurino. I replaced the motor with an LED to check if the motor was drawing too much power and it was. The image below shows me testing this with the LED iluminated, proving the motor draws too much power.

The solution to this was to use the digital signal from the Ardurino to power the coil of a relay. The relay is then powered by a 9V battery that has enough power for the fan and keeps the Ardurino at a safe voltage. The relay in out kit needed to be soldered so we went to the Engineering building to learn to solder. we cut down wires, added heat shrink tubing then soldered the wire and terminals of the relay together.

With the relay added the motor now worked.
